Busy week! The Ripley library will the center of festivities this coming weekend, with the tree lighting starting off on Friday at 5:30 p.m.. We’ll have students from both St. Michael and RULH schools bringing music to enjoy, announcements of the winners of the ‘Light Up Ripley’ competition, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and just fun festivities. At 6:00p.m., the Friends of the Library open the annex doors for their holiday book sale. We have over 40 tables filled with fiction, history, children’s books, cookbooks, biographies, gardening, inspirational, paperbacks, DVDs and so much more. We also do a table of special titles—might be local interest, quirky or just not what you might expect… all just for a donation to the Friends. The Banks of the Ohio String Band will be playing in the annex during Friday’s book sale. The Women’s Club will be doing s’mores down by their thrift shop after the tree lighting, and if there is still room, CoHeart’s will be having Harriett Groh singing holiday tunes at 7:00 p.m., reservations required.
Saturday morning at 9:00 to 9:45 we will be open in the meeting room for entries to the adult Christmas Ornament competition to be submitted, judging is at 10:00– stop at the library for rules if you haven’t done so already. The book sale will continue 10-4 on Saturday, and we promise to add new items to the tables , so worth checking back in to see if you can find the new treasures. Throughout Ripley there will be other events–here are a few—Church of the Nazarene will be hosting a craft fair from 9-3:00 along with homemade food at their Naz Cafe, Buddy the Elf breakfast at the Methodist church from 9-11 a.m., and local businesses will be decorated and welcoming you in to see and purchase stuff you won’t find elsewhere (Just think, in Ripley you can find one of a kind antiques, teas, scarves, baskets, knives, guns, handcrafted items, beauty supplies, clothing, gift certificates, and so much more!) To wrap up Saturday, the Methodist church will be hosting their Christmas Community Concert at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome.
Sunday the Ripley Christmas House Tour starts at 1:00p.m., tickets can be purchased at the Ripley Museum.
The postcard shown was chosen since the Rankin star shines brightly this time of year. We wonder how many people would recognize it as the Rankin house in this 1912 postmarked version. Rankin had been long gone, and it was a private home with additions—you can see the ‘bones’ of the original, but with extensions and the porch, it definitely looks different.
