From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
The walks to the library this week have been very winter-like, so we thought we’d look for a winter scene, even though technically, winter doesn’t start for a few weeks. This postcard is probably early, as it is an unsplit card, so likely pre-1907. (notice the very small space to write a note on the front of the card) Then there is the question of location. South Ripley is across the river from Ripley, but in the top corner it says Ripley, O. We’ll go with it is a local scene somewhere, and it definitely looks cold!
The crazy schedules of the holidays have begun, and we hope that you will be able to participate in most of them. For the library, we are anticipating the arrival of the Community Christmas tree this week, and thank the village crew for helping with the set-up and Mike Koehler for finding, cutting down and delivering the tree. We are fortunate to have people who volunteer their time and resources to help the village celebrate the season. The tree lighting ceremonies will be next Friday the 13th at 5:30 p.m.. (Followed by our wonderful booksale at 6:00 p.m.–more details next week)
This week, we are having Jim Kleefeld visit the annex on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for his Christmas Magic Show. Some of our readers know Jim from his summer reading program visits, so we hope that you will find time to drop by on Saturday afternoon to enjoy this free kids program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. The Russellville Library will have Jim performing at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday as well, so hopefully one of the time slots will work for you.
We are still taking donations of books for the upcoming Friends of the Library book sale as well as toys and gifts for kids up to age 10 that will be distributed after the tree lighting next week.
