From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
While not of Ripley, these holiday postcards were sent to a Ripley resident many years ago. The top card was sent in 1915, the lower card in 1909. There are so many styles and sentiments in the holiday postcard history it is hard to select just one. Hope you enjoy!
We want to thank everyone that planned, participated and came to the Ripley events surrounding the library this past weekend. First, thanks to the Village of Ripley for helping with setting the tree, and the Mayor(and great niece) for lighting the tree. Sgt. Major Kokensparger for leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, for Santa Claus and his elf for distributing gifts to kids, Mrs. Claus bringing cheer and candy canes to the crowd. To Stephen Strunk for providing and manning the sound system. To the schools that brought musical talent to the stage, and to everyone else that made it happen. Our biggest thanks to Harriett Groh, who rose to the challenge of coordinating everyone and being master of ceremonies on Friday evening. The Friends of the Library want to thank you for your generosity at the book sale—we hope you found treasures to add to your collection or give as gifts. Friday night was especially delightful at the book sale– drinking hot chocolate provided by the Women’s Club, chatting with friends, listening to the Banks of the Ohio String Band along with browsing for books…. Thank you.
The library is a bit quieter than usual this week, even our interlibrary loan requests and deliveries are down, but we understand! So much to do in this last full week before Christmas. In the spirit of last-minute shopping, the Friends still have a few copies for sale of the latest Rev. Rankin book titled Conductor as well as copies of Beyond the River, His Promised Land and Black Cadet in a White Bastion if you have a friend or family member that doesn’t know about some of the important Ripley heroes in our past.
Christmas week we will be closing at 4:00 on Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas. Happy holidays to everyone.
