From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
Went looking for a January photo from the past. This is a before and after renovation, but…try to figure out where it is! Hint, this was in a 1988 paper. The answer is at the end of the column.
For those of you that use the newspaper archives on our website, we hope that you have seen the recent additions. We are branching out more into Adams County, and just added People’s Defender 1891-1950—there are a few scattered earlier dates as well. We know that there is a fair amount of Brown County news and genealogy in the Adams Co. papers, so we hope these papers will help you on your ‘hunt’ for history.
OK, here is the photo caption ” BEFORE and AFTER—Rita Spiller, who lives in the mobile home on Easton Street (Alley), submitted these pictures of some recent renovation work that a lot of people haven’t seen. This is the building facing Second Street (where the “nutcracker” scenes were painted for the holidays) now owned by Dallas Kratzer. Before…the backside had collapsed; after…it been enclosed by the Richard Blackburn crew.” In the January 28, 1988 Ripley Bee.
