1964 flood photo, but what we really like is the picture of the Standard Oil service station! In 1964 Joseph M. Gallagher was the owner/operator of this SOHIO station—he had also had one in Aberdeen near the old bridge. We think this service station was Sidwell’s SOHIO in the late1950s. Mr. Gallagher passed away in 1978.
Late last week we had the pleasure of meeting Tom Roberson, author of a new book titled Around Maysville. Done by Arcadia Press, this is a book filled with photos and postcards of the seven surrounding counties, so Brown and Adams are included. What was really fun is during his visit, Mr. Roberson brought his album of Brown County postcards for us to browse. We are pretty envious of his collection! We thought we had a decent number of postcards, but we have a long way to go. Cool thing is, we know that there are lots more out there, and we will remain on the hunt for the cards that represent our library area. (And we did have a few that he didn’t have!) Mr. Roberson donated a copy of his book, and we had already ordered two, so each branch will have one in the collection.
Our kids (and parents) had a blast last week with the Family Traditions Animal Adventures visiting all three libraries. A very large owl, a Macaw, a snake, porcupine, scorpion, young kangaroo and more all were here at the libraries—The Family Traditions group are awesome spokespersons for their amazing animals.
