From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
Thumbing through our folders of Ripley Bee pictures of late January from years gone by… we had to share this one with you. The gathering was held at the ground-breaking for the expansion of the library in 1990, what is now the ‘new’ children’s library side and director’s office and the reference area. (January 25, 1990)
The caption read “LIBRARY BOARD PRESIDENT Clorinda Caproni addresses those on hand for the library addition ground-breaking Saturday afternoon. In the second row are Bette Plymesser, Jeff Klump, Bob Campbell, Jane Zachman, Carol Stivers, Bessie Smith, Lorinda Coffey, Megan Poole and Justing Fulton. In the third row are Phil Baker and Nancy Fuchs, and in the back are Tom Zachman, Viola Lewis, Fred Anderson, Clem Schumacher, Delmar Daniel, Paul Hauke and John Leonard.
This was a major development for the library 75 years after the library was originally built. The many familiar faces in the picture were chosen to represent the library, trustees and the community “Past, Present and Future”
Happy 35th anniversary! Over the years, the reference area has filled up with many unique sources, the director’s office is filled with 30+ years’ worth of stuff (the office was so sparse 30 years ago—could see the entire desk top, extra chairs, no book shelves or filing cabinets against the wall…). What was once roomy is now starting to get a bit crowded, as is much of the rest of the library, but we make it work, think cozy…
