From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
Here’s another recently gifted postcard to the library collection. While we had the ‘green tint’ postcard of the same picture, this one, with a magnifying glass, is a little bit clearer on the signage. (W.H. Kendall and Co., Livery, Stables) If you are having a hard time ‘orienting’ yourself to the picture, don’t feel bad—those buildings are gone. Place yourself on lower Main Street just past the library annex and look north—imagine the annex being the rough location of the livery stable (the taller building) and the O. R. & C freight office. The train is going to cross Main Street and continue on Easton Alley.
As the month of October winds down…this Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Parker Park the unveiling of the official road sign extending the Brigadier General Charles Young Memorial Historical Corridor through Ripley. Don’t forget to wander down Front Street this Saturday between 6-8 p.m. for the Pumpkin Glow. Decorations, carved pumpkins, snacks and fun. Our own Miss Julie C. will be there reading stories to our little ones. Thanks to Ripley RISE for sponsoring this event. Then, next week on Thursday, October 31st, the Ripley Friends of the Library will be doing their best to celebrate the season with Trunk or Treat in the library parking lot. The Friends as well as local organizations come to set up, decorate their car/truck, often in costume—lots of fun in a safe environment.
