From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
As our readers know, we are always on the lookout for more historical material for the area. Always hoping for newspapers that we don’t have of the Ripley Bee and other local papers so that we can share them with our readers near and far. Our latest acquisition is one rather tattered copy of the November 14, 1895 News Democrat. The earliest News Democrat we had access to before this was in 1897 and we have no 1895 Ripley Bees, so…we felt this was a good find. Lots of advertisements, and many tidbits of local news including Ripley. The clip is just a small sampling of the paper. We will in time send it out to be digitalized so it will be available 24/7, but it might not be ‘up’ until the end of the year. We assume we will never have all of the Ripley Bees, but we keep hoping someone will find a box in the attic and allow us to digitalize…
This Thursday, July 25th Ripley Library’s annex will be the place to be! The National Park Service will be in town for further studies on the possibility of the John P. Parker House becoming a National Park location. They will be holding an open house at the annex from 5:00-8:00 pm and will be giving a presentation at 5:30 pm and again at 7:00 pm. Between presentations, they will be available for informal discussions. Please join us in welcoming the NPS to Ripley, and bring your questions and support to this special opportunity for Ripley’s heritage.
