LIBRARY TALK – JULY 5, 2025

From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
This picture, along with other flood related items was recently donated to the library archives. This is the ‘pool hall’ building on the corner of Main and Easton Alley. According to the Ripley Bee of March 26, 1936, the high water was a fairly slow rising flood, starting on March 13th and not cresting until the 24th! The Bee office had been flooded, but the News Democrat stepped in and printed a brief 4-page Ripley Bee on time to spread the news. Belle Schwab was the widow of Jacob Schwab, and she passed away in April of 1937.
We’ve been happily giving away the Summer Reading Program t-shirts that have been earned by our readers, and there is still time to fill out your reading log. Graphic novels to drawing books, classic fairytales to adventure, we are happy to see all of the different kinds of books that have been borrowed by ‘our’ kids. The programs have been well attended, and we thank the parents and grandparents that bring their kids to our libraries.
If you’ve tried to visit the library on Wednesdays in the afternoon or evening, it may be hard to find a parking place until the Queen of Hearts has been drawn. A happy chaos on Main Street, but crowded, so just a head’s up.
