LIBRARY TALK – NOVEMBER 22, 2024

From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
With the leaves falling, the Rankin House is now more visible from downtown Ripley, but we thought a 1914-1916 postcard of the Liberty Stairs leading to the Rankin House would be fun to look at without the clouding of foliage. Over the years, several designs have been created to replace the stairs—not sure when this version was made, perhaps refurbished for the 1912 centennial.
Hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving! Ripley’s Ms. Julie is doing her popular crafts and cookies next Wednesday the 27th to get our children into the holiday spirit. Kids in grades K-3 will be at 11:00 in the morning, and kids in grades 4-8 will be at 1:00 in the afternoon. Please call the library at 937-392-4871 to reserve a spot as space is limited. All three libraries will be closing at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, and will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. We hope that everyone will have a fun and happy Thanksgiving.
Then December hits, and it is a rollercoaster from then on! School children should have or will be receiving a flyer about the Ripley Christmas House. While not a library function, it will be held in the library annex December 4 & 5 from 12-7:00 pm. The purpose of the House is to provide holiday gifts for underserved children in the RULH district. More information is available on their website www.ripleychristmas house.org. On Saturday, December 7th at 2:30 p.m. Jim Kleefeld with dazzle kids and kids at heart with his Christmas Magic show in the annex. Russellville Branch library will also be hosting Jim and his magic on the same day, at 1:00 p.m. Following week will be River Village Christmas, more details to follow. The Ripley Library is one of the locations for donating new toys and gifts for children to be distributed on December 13th. Questions? Give us a call or stop by.
