LIBRARY TALK – MAY 1, 2026

From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
As the days get warmer (well, most of them) and ticket sales continue for the RULH alumni dinner, we thought we’d pull the 1976 yearbook (50 years ago!) and look at the senior class as well as the rest of the book for a sense of time and place. Too many pages for the individual senior pictures to post, but you are welcome to stop in and browse the book if you’ve lost yours! For town history, the advertisements are where to go—part of our annex was Neu’s Econo Wash, the tobacco warehouses—New Farmers, O.-K. and Independent all had spaces, Economy Furniture, Clem’s Shady Nook Mobile Court, Milligan’s Parts Co, Robinett Dari, Finney’s Riverview Stables, Brookbank Enterprises, Inc, Caproni’s Brown County Beer Distributors and more. We’re guessing the class of ’76 remembers all these businesses and more. Besides the yearbook, for ‘profiles’ of the seniors, you have access to the May 1976 Blue Jay in our newspaper archives which includes the 1976 Ripley Bee as well. We hope you enjoy strolling down memory lane.
While it seems far away, we’ve been preparing for the Summer Reading Program. ‘Dig into the Past’ with dinosaurs, fossils and more is the theme, and we believe this will be lots of fun. Lots of programs, great stuff just for signing up, and the opportunity to just read because you enjoy it—no tests, no assignments, just chilling with a book! Stay tuned for more information as we get nearer the end of May.
