LIBRARY TALK – SEPTEMBER 8, 2023
From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
We appreciate the ‘birdseye’ type of postcards and were pleased to recently add to our collection this one of Higginsport. Circa 1910, it is one of the few Higginsport cards we have and thought we should share with you.
We know it is approaching fall when the books on pumpkins, apples and Halloween decorations start checking out—both in the children’s and adult section. We still have a good selection on these topics for now, so we encourage you to stop in and grab some for ideas.
In the Halloween mood, Julie Carpenter will be leading a fun craft project on October 3 at 6:00 p.m. for adults at the Ripley library—the TikTok sensation Thrifted Ghost Painting! Bring in a print or painting that you’ve picked up at a thrift store or garage sale and have fun painting in little ghosties and other Halloweenie items (bats? black cats? goblins?). Silly fun. Landscape pictures, pictures of houses or a street scape with people walking down the sidewalk, they all work. Ghosts fly everywhere. This is a free event, but space is limited and you need to sign up. Call us at 937-392-4871.
This Saturday, September 9th the Russellville Library will be having their Friends of the Library Book & Bargain Sale from 9-1– last we checked, they have lots of books, both donated as well as pulled from the library collection, a much larger than usual collection of DVDs, many like new, and the non-book items are starting to flood in—you never know what treasures you might find, and the money goes to a good cause—The Friends group is very supportive of the library and we appreciate their good work.
