LIBRARY TALK – AUGUST 26, 2023
From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
Thought we’d do a brief ’35 Years Ago’ with pictures this week. With school just starting and the festival this week, we picked two to cover these themes. The library has a limited number of the original photographs from the Ripley Bee, so we pulled these two to share. Top photo is of first graders of St. Michael School with Margaret Eagan as their teacher. While she isn’t at St. Michael’s any longer, we are fortunate to have Margaret still regularly come to the library to pick out books for her students, and we love to hear about her ‘kids’ reactions to her selections. (Ripley Bee, September 15, 1988)
We couldn’t help but smile at the picture of lovely Clorinda Caproni as the Grand Marshal of the Ohio Tobacco Festival. There is a strong library connection here as Clorinda was a library trustee for many years, always giving her time and support to many organizations in town. (Ripley Bee, September 1, 1988)
So, does it seem like a quarter of a century ago or merely yesterday? Time flies.
Scorcher of a week temperature-wise, so we recommend doing something calm, say, reading a book! Be it a physical book (still our favorite) or the ease of a downloaded eBook, in front of a fan, under a shady tree or in air-conditioned comfort. We have lots of new books in our collections for adults, teens and children and we welcome you in to find an escape from the heat.
A reminder that Ripley library will be closing an hour early on Friday to make room for the parade, and will be closed on Saturday. However, our branches will be open regular hours, so if you need a library fix, we welcome you to visit our Russellville and Aberdeen locations.
