LIBRARY TALK – JULY 9, 2023
From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
This is one of our favorite postcards. The long sweeping bank is no longer possible, but having ours cleaned up would certainly improve the look and access to the river!
No date on the card, but we’re guessing 1908-1915 era.
We’ve had a few issues at the Ripley location, guess it comes with maintaining an older building. Upstairs in the main part of the library the air conditioner decided it didn’t want to work, and then…our elevator motor burned up, so no riding up and down until fixed. Apparently one of the 3 power phases ‘blinked’ Thursday night after we closed, so was a surprise on Friday morning when it didn’t work. Of course there is a supply chain issue with the parts, but hopefully fixed soon– the construction of the original elevator was in 1987, so over 35 years old and there really hasn’t been many issues with it until now.
While the libraries are ‘wrapping up’ the official summer reading program this week, it doesn’t mean programs are slowing down! Check with the library of your choice to see what programs are scheduled.
Back in 2017, we had Justin Brown and his Interface Death crew come to the library and talk about paranormal evidence. For those of you that came, remember when the equipment started making noises that startled even Justin? Anyway, he is returning to the library annex on Saturday July 29th at 11:00 in the morning to talk about new findings and technology. A lot can happen in 6 years. This is a free program and open to everyone.
