From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
Listening to the Village of Ripley council meetings, one of the projects that is in the works is improving the road to the Rankin house. We thought our readers would find the following postcard interesting–we don’t see a bus making it up this driveway! While not dated, our estimation is the picture is from 1912-16. Another ‘road’ postcard is of Front Street—this card was mailed in 1915, printed by Kraemer Art Co. for Maddox Drug Co. Brick sidewalk and basically a gravel road-a little rougher than today. Many of the postcards in our collection were contracted by Maddox as well as Bristow’s. We are thankful it was a popular method of advertising as some of our best pictures of Ripley 100+ years ago are via postcards. We continue to look for cards that we don’t already have in our collection, as we are sure there are yet more treasures tucked away in a scrapbook or box.
