HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH – OCTOBER 21, 2022

Off

As you may know, from September the 15th to October the 15th we observe the National Hispanic Heritage Month, in recognition and celebration of the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and the extension of the American continent in Central and South America.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

For this occasion, the Spanish Club at RULH High School in Ripley wants to invite the Ripley community and surrounding areas to our very first Hispanic Heritage Celebration, which will take place on October the 21st from 5:00 to 9:00pm at the Ripley Library Annex Building.

We will have special guests: Mrs. Odalis Jimenez (from Puerto Rico), Public Services Associate for the Fairfield Branch of the Lane Public Library system in Cincinnati, and Mrs. Nancy Bottoms (from Colombia), Federal Civil Rights Investigator with the EEOC and Analytic Linguist Contractor with the Department of Justice, will share their personal and professional experiences as Hispanics in the U.S. Mrs. Valerie Simmons, Branch Manager of the Fairfield Branch of the Lane Public Library system in Cincinnati, whose support has been instrumental in carrying on with diverse and inclusive initiatives in the area, will also share her experience in this matter with us.
There will be Hispanic food sampling prepared by the Global Foods class students at the high school under the guidance of the Family & Consumer Science Teacher, Mrs. Michele Rau. We will also have live music performed by Mr. Óscar Salamanca Alarcón (from Colombia), Music Educator and Director of La Fórmula Music Productions based in Cincinnati, will be performing a variety of Hispanic rhythms to amenize the evening.
RULH Spanish Club, under the direction of Mrs. Claudia Castle (from Colombia), Spanish Teacher at Ripley High School, is thrilled to share and embrace the cultural diversity with our community and celebrate all that unite us!. We hope you save the date and can make it on October the 21st from 5:00 to 9:00pm at Union Township Public Library, 19 Main Street, Ripley, OH.
