Just finished helping the Friends of the Library clean up and box up some of the remaining books—we had mostly ‘empty’ boxes to store due to the success of the sale, and what was remaining we selected the best for donations to appropriate organizations (alas, some did go to recycling…)—we really try to have a fresh batch of books at each sale. Anyway, the sale was successful, and thanks to everyone that donated books and purchased books. The Friends worked hard in setting up the books, providing refreshments, helping wrap many of the presents that ‘stuffed the cruiser’ for Sunday’s gift giving to children.

The Friends help the library with funding programs and materials,…including this Saturday’s Madcap Puppet Christmas Carol at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Madcap people are awesome, and I look forward to seeing how they interpret the classic Dickens’ story. All kids and kids at heart are welcome to this free event in the annex next to the Ripley library.

Also thanks to the Banks of the Ohio for providing live seasonal music on Friday evening during the book sale—lovely to listen to, and much appreciated.  The MCJROTC and the Ripley Fire Department added a fine touch of decorum to the Friday night tree lighting and ceremonies in the annex. Thank you.

The last program of the year will be on Saturday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the Ripley library meeting room with a visit from author Robert Hawkins.  There has been several articles lately on the book Book of Matches: the Life, murder and Family of an Appalachian War Veteran.  The family lived in Peebles at the time of the murder, so clearly local connections. Books will be available for purchase after the event.
