LIBRARY TALK – AUGUST 29, 2019

Another month gone! Another festival finished, another school year started.

Last reminder—Steve Free will be performing this coming Saturday starting at 3:00 p.m. in the annex—last few years he has been in the meeting room in the library on a Sunday, but as you know, the annex is bigger and we hope to have a nice crowd—he is very talented and we are fortunate to have the Billingsley’s invite Steve to play here in Ripley.

We are hoping to start seeing art work from our local talented people for the Friends of the Library annual Fish Fry and Silent auction that will be coming up before you know it—(Saturday, September 14th at 5:00 p.m.)  This year, the theme is ‘Getting to Know Ripley’ with any media—so it won’t be all bird houses or all fish or all oars, rather each artist’s favorite media for inspiration. I’ve heard there will be wooden trays, painted gourds,  paintings, framed photographs,  unique scarves and more—we will be posting them on our library Facebook when we start getting them in, and we hope that you will join in the fun by bidding on them. The Friends have really upped the ante as far as sponsoring programs for both kids and adults as well as keeping their traditional support in place— when you see a child wearing a summer reading program t-shirt, or had a child participate in the art camp this year, it was Friends sponsored! If you enjoyed the History of Rock n’ Roll earlier this month, that was a Friends program as well.

As fast as the weeks are flying by, here’s a head’s up on a program that is sure to please the kids—A real, live shark is coming to the Library Annex on September 12th at 6:00 p.m. The Shark Tank program from the Newport Aquarium will help people know about the world of sharks as well as letting everyone pet the shark in the tank—sounds like fun!

FYI, our libraries will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.
