Library Talk – July 5, 2018

Library Talk July 5, 2018

July! Second half of the year (already).   Just a few head’s-up on events in this warm month.

Ben and Harrison Pedigo will be returning to the library’s jam scene on Tuesday, July 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the annex. For those of you that have been faithful to the jams, you will remember that it was Harrison and occasionally Ben that were here at the beginning—it was Harrison’s idea to start with! So we are pleased that they will be back, and that we can ‘headline’ them for the first 20 minutes or so, and then jam the rest of the evening.  Hope you can join us for the ‘reunion’ performance, it promises to be a good evening of music..

The Ripley Friends of the Library are planning a fun and educational program on Sunday July 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the annex.  Many of you have heard the name or seen the posters of Rosie the Riveter—the WWII hard-working factory worker that helped America manufacture airplanes, military vehicles, ammunition and more.  Well, there is more to the character than ‘just’ riveting metal, and we are pleased to have a performer from the excellent stable of reenactors from the Kentucky Chautauqua that will tell of Rose Leigh’s life story.  Befitting a Sunday afternoon in July, after the performance, we will be having an ice cream social.  Hope that you can join us to learn a little history, enjoy a good performance, and have a dip or two of delicious ice cream!

We have chosen not to have formal computer classes in July, but all three libraries have special times for one-on-one computer assistance—from setting up an app on a smart phone, to downloading eBooks or audio books, to answers to why does my laptop do this silly thing (or why won’t it behave), we have the staff that can help.  Ripley’s Matt Carpenter is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 -6:30 p.m., Jeremiah Costa at Aberdeen is hoping the one-on-one questions will need to be answered on Tuesdays from 2-3:30 p.m., and Russellville is our only branch with a Guiding Ohio Online trainer available both Tuesdays from 11:30 -4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. but she will not be available until mid-July.  No question too simple—if there is something that has been preventing you from getting the best out of the computers, they are here to help.  Ripley—392-4871, Aberdeen 695-2534, Russellville 377-2700.  All of this is free, and we hope that you take advantage of our services.
