Library Talk January 25, 2018

Well, the genealogy class last Saturday was a hit!  All our tables were full, and there was so much interest we are going to do a ‘part 2’ on Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 a.m..  There will be a leaning towards the DNA aspect of the research, some discussion on the different companies that offer the DNA kits and what databases use which testing, but there will be plenty of time to discuss other genealogy search tools as well as strategies. There is talk about setting up a regular genealogy ‘club’ in the future, as sharing tips, successes and failures can often lead to a new approach for your own ancestor hunt.

This Saturday at 10:30 a.m. will be the rescheduled Backyard Maple Syruping class with Christine Tailer. Now that we have had a few ‘warmer’ days, it is easy to imagine the sap running and collecting in the buckets…. I hope you will join us to find out how to do your own collecting of sap and boiling down to syrup as well as hearing some of the personal ups and downs of producing the syrup right here in Brown County.

Calling all parents/grandparents/guardians of our very young children—Ripley is starting the 2018 story times designed to introduce your darlings to the wonderful world of books and literacy. Preschool Storytime (ages 2-4 years old) will start on Thursday, February 1st at 11:15 am—with books, music and rhymes along with an age appropriate art project.

New for us will be the “Wee Movers & Shakers” for babies 6 months to 2 years old. This class will be held on Wednesdays at 10:30 am starting on February 7th.  This is for the very young as they start to notice the amazing world around them, and we sing, dance and learn how much fun books can enrich their lives.  Questions? Please call us at 392-4871.
