Library Talk – January 11, 2018

Library Talk, January 11, 2018

Mmmm,,,,maple syrup.  We are having a program this Saturday morning at 10:30 to discuss the joys of making your own maple syrup—you don’t have to be in Vermont to have the proper trees to make delicious syrup (Ohio is ranked 7th in the nation for production), and you don’t have to have lots of acres of land to collect enough sap if you have the right trees.  So please join us here at the Ripley library for some show and tell as well as instruction and tales of experience from Christine Tailer about her own Brown County production.

Next Saturday, January 20th at 10:30 am Ripley library will be hosting a genealogy class to talk about some of the sources you can use, some of the exciting stuff that turns up if you have your DNA done and more!  Professional genealogist Melody Kokensparger will be leading the program..  As always, these programs are free and all are welcome. We encourage ideas and speakers on a variety of topics, and if there is something or someone you’d like us to consider, please let us know.

This cold snap has reminded me to let you know we do sometimes have to close due to weather—as long as our furnaces and water systems are running we will be open regardless how cold it is, but…if the road conditions are bad due to ice/snow/sleet we may open late, close early or not open at all—we are not connected with school closures, so best to call the main library at 392-4871 or go to our Facebook at ripleyohiolibrary page to find out what our situation is.

We will be closed on Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
