Library Talk – June 15, 2017

Library Talk, June 15, 2017

Thanks again for your support at the Friends book sale this past Saturday. It was worth the effort being open the second Saturday.  We’ll go through what is left and sort, probably recycle some, and  put away, but we now have lots of room for new donations as well as what we weed from the collection.  I wondered through the tables on Sunday, and some of the ‘special’ books that have some rarity and bookseller value were still there….I scooped them up and will save them for next time! Ripley Friends of the Library will probably not have another book sale until River Village Christmas.  (Russellville Friends usually have one shortly after Labor Day, and they have their own collection of books to sell).

You might not be aware that the Ripley Friends of the Library have several things for sale at the library at all times—we carry autographed copies of Ann Hagedorn’s Beyond the River, copies of His Promised Land (about John Parker) as well as an assortment of other new books that have a local connection. We still have some of the suncatchers with the library building design, and they are at a bargain price of only $5.00 each. (They were made here in Brown County up at the Glass ReFactory), and still some lovely blank cards with scenes of the library or Ripley printed.  If there is interest, we may work on a few new designs.

The Summer Reading Program has started off well at all 3 libraries. Thanks to Julie Kline for bringing in baby goats for show n’ tell at Ripley, Russellville had Whitney Lawhorn from Adams Brown Recycling helping kids to understand the importance of recycling as well as cool crafts, and more. Still time to sign up and attend the programs as well as get a reading log going to track your summer fun reading. Stop in at any of the branches to get the details.

If you haven’t visited our website or Facebook page lately, the next program is on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00 a.m. here at the Ripley library—ever-popular Shaheen Miro returns, this time to teaching basic cleansing techniques to remove negative energies from you and your environment—this is a free program and all are welcome.
