LIBRARY TALK
From the desk of Alison Gibson, Director
A big thank you to so many people that made the Ripley Friends of the Library 2nd annual Fish Fry and Silent Auction a big success. The auction and the dessert table alone provided the Friends with over $2,000.00 with which they will help purchase furnishings for the library annex. The list is long: all of the Friends (and Friend spouses) that set-up, cooked and served the delicious food, the artists that toiled away on the awesome paddles, the very generous bidders that ran up the final bid prices on the paddles, the Pedigos for providing such excellent music, the Lion’s Club allowing the use of their river view shelter and to the building owner that allowed us to display many of the paddles before the event. The many people that helped out as well as all the people that came down to the event means a lot—that there is ‘love’ for the library, the community is alive and well, and this is an event worth continuing. Now about the heat—it was a scorcher, and we may have to rethink the time of year a little bit….
The annex. Still no definitive ready date, but I am happy to report many of the ceiling lights have been installed. The final air conditioner hook-up should be soon, and then….inspections, floor work, plumbing…. Our steps are small, but all in the right direction. Thanks for your patience.
We took the music jam on the road and had a successful old-fashioned jam up at the Russellville library last week. Hot temperature, but cool music. Fiddles, washtub bass, mandolin and guitars rounded out the group, and it was well attended for the first time in Russellville. Thanks to the musicians and the audience for participating. I expect a good turnout for Ripley’s jam this Tuesday.
August is close at hand, and the first program will be on Monarch Butterflies—learn about these iconic butterflies, how to help them with planting butterfly-friendly gardening, and even see them in various stages of growth. This free family-friendly program will be held Monday August 8th at 6:30 at the Aberdeen Branch Library and again on August 11th at 6:30 at the Russellville Branch Library.
