Library Talk – November 23, 2017

Library Talk, November 23, 2017

We wish everyone a happy, heartfelt Thanksgiving, and hope that families can be together and enjoy good times and good food.  The library will be closed on Thursday, but we will be open on Friday with our regular hours. (So if you need a respite from Black Friday purchasing, either at the stores or on-line, stop in!)

The Levanna postcard of last week has spurred interest in little Levanna, and thanks to information left at the library, we have a few more copies of pictures—including two from the Ripley museum with the post office and the general store.  Thanks for everyone that ‘followed up’ on the story.

While it seems somewhat far away, it is only a matter of a few weeks before the annual Friends of the Library book sale. River Village Christmas is December 8-10, and our book sale is Friday the 8th after the tree lighting (about 6:00 p.m.) and then all day Saturday 10-4.  Of course, we will use our spacious annex to afford walking around room as well as lots more tables to set up. We have received some lovely donations—if you are looking to fill in a gap of your favorite author collection, find somebody new, or look for some pretty darn nice Christmas gifts, please stop in and enjoy. On Friday evening, there will be music and hot chocolate to get you into the holiday mood.  There is also still time to donate books (please, no encyclopedias or old moldy text books)—the Friends of the Library use the money raised to sponsor programs, help the library purchase collection material, and support the children’s summer reading program, plus help out with  special projects such as last year purchasing a good portion of the furniture used in the annex.  So, I think library book sales all over are a win-win—bargains to be had and helping your own community. Thanks!
